May 2026 Philippine Registry of Heritage Update
The Philippine Registry of Heritage (PRH) recently published its Monthly Status Report for May 2026. Click the link below to see the current number of cultural properties included in the Registry and the Local Cultural Inventories (LCIs) submitted last month.
May 2026 STATUS REPORT
The deadline for 2026 LCI submissions is on December 15, 2026. Pursuant to the DILG-NCCA Joint Memorandum Circular 2021-001 or the Amended Guidelines on the Standardized Submission of LCI under the PRH for the Issuance of Certificate of Compliance (COC) to Local Government Units (LGUs), if the LGU complies with the documentary and minimum data requirements, a COC will be received from the Commission. IN PHOTO: Sakada Worker’s Monument (Registered Property, Municipality of Cabugao, Ilocos Sur)
Located in Philippine Ports Authority-Salomague Port, Cabugao, Ilocos Sur, the monument was built to commemorate the Sakadas or the farmers who departed to Hawaii to till sugarcane plantation in Hawaii. During the Spanish period, the Salomague Port was a disembarkation point of sea vessels from Aparri and Manila and is one of the few Ilocos barangay listed on the International Marine’s Map. In 1946, the last wave of Filipinos departed from this port to work as sugarcane plantation workers (Sakadas) in the islands of Hawaii and over six thousand men were ferried across the Pacific via SS Maunawili. The monument was unveiled on January 8, 2006 by former Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle and the local officials of the area. A new historical marker was unveiled on December 15, 2015 in commemoration of the 7th Decade of the Plight of the Sakadas.
