Orientation on the Philippine Registry of Heritage (PRH) and Workshop on The Registry Form for the Province of Aklan

A 2-day Orientation and Workshop on the Philippine Registry of Heritage (PRH) was held from November 27 to 28, 2024 in Kalibo, Aklan. It was a collaborative effort between the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Provincial Government of Aklan. The activity aimed to equip cultural workers, tourism officers, and members of cultural councils with the skills needed to document and register cultural properties in compliance with Republic Act 11961.

The program emphasized the importance of cultural mapping, heritage education, and the responsibilities of stakeholders in preserving the nation’s tangible, intangible, and natural heritage. An introduction to the PRH highlighted its role as a national repository of cultural properties and its integration with cultural mapping outputs to support research, disaster management, and policymaking.

The workshop provided both theoretical and practical knowledge. Sessions led by NCCA personnel, Ms. Christine Joy Miguel, Mr. Lanz Arren Lozada, and Ms. Deanne Mae Yoro, covered the PRH’s domains, registry forms, and documentation techniques. Participants learned to identify, assess, and record cultural properties using frameworks like the Burra Charter and tools such as geotagging and risk assessment platforms. A hands-on workshop allowed participants, divided into teams, to document assigned cultural properties, analyze their significance, and address potential threats. Team Red was commended for their exemplary output, demonstrating strong attention to detail and adherence to documentation guidelines.

Participants were guided on complying with NCCA standards, including completing registry forms, passing necessary resolutions, and attaching multimedia documentation. Closing remarks from Ms. Roselle Ruiz highlighted the need for collaboration and commitment to preserve Aklan’s rich cultural heritage, leaving participants with enhanced skills and a renewed sense of purpose in safeguarding the province’s historical and cultural legacy.
