CULTURAL PROPERTIES INSIDE THE TAAL VOLCANO PERMANENT DANGER ZONE (PDZ)

Taal Volcano, a complex stratovolcano which is located in the province of Batangas is the second most active volcano among the twenty-four active volcanoes in the Philippines. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) currently placed Taal Volcano under Alert Level 1 (Low Level Unrest). Under this Alert Level, entry into the Taal Volcano Island (TVI), especially the Main Crater and Daang Kastila fissures, occupancy and boating on the Taal Lake are not allowed. Flying any aircraft close to the volcano is not also recommended by PHIVOLCS due to possible hazards that can occur such as steam-driven or phreatic eruptions or gas-driven eruptions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas.

Currently, there are four mapped tangible-immovable cultural properties registered to the Philippine Registry of Cultural Property inside the 14-km radius permanent danger zone of Taal Volcano, which falls under the jurisdiction of the municipality of Mendez-Nuñez in Cavite, City of Tagaytay in Cavite and in the municipality of Balete in Batangas.
