IN PHOTO: Halad Inasal Festival (Local Cultural Property; Registered Property, City of Talisay, Cebu)
Talisay City Cebu's well-known annual celebration, Halad Inasal Festival, are two separate festivals celebrated simultaneously every 15th of October. "Halad Festival" refers to the traditional thanksgiving gesture of Talisaynon to remember and honor St. Theresa de Avila, the town's patroness. At the same time, the "Inasal Festival" pertains to the celebration established by the city's former mayor Eduardo R. Gullas in 2001 to promote the specialty of the town — "inasal baboy", commonly known as lechon. In the annual fiesta celebration, Talisaynons showcase colorful themes and costumes that portray the historical heritage and native Talisaynon's identity through performing street dances. Street dancing incorporates choreographies depicting dynamic movements in preparing the "inasal." Additionally, one of the significant events during the celebration is the food festival, wherein lechons take center stage and join the parade on the streets. Hence, if you're at Talisay City on the 15th day of October by chance, it is a must not to miss the Halad Inasal Festival.
