CULTURAL PROPERTIES REGISTERED UNDER MT. KANLAON EDZ

Mt. Kanlaon is a stratovolcano that is situated in the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, the highest peak in Central Visayas region and has a 4-km radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ). According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology latest Volcano Bulletin dated 22 March 2023, Mt. Kanlaon is currently under alert Level 1 (Low Level of Unrest) which means that entry into the 4-km PDZ as well as flying of any aircraft close to the volcano is prohibited due to possible hazards that can occur such as steam-driven or phreatic eruptions.

Based on the Kanlaon Volcano Alert Scheme, during Alert Level 3 (High Level of Volcanic Unrest), danger zones may increase to a radius of six (6) kilometers from the summit crater or active vent. On the other hand, during Alert Level 4 (Hazardous Eruption Imminent), danger zones may be expanded to a radius of ten (10) kilometers or more from the summit crater or active vent. During Alert Level 5 (Hazardous Eruption in Progress), danger zones may be expanded to fourteen (14) kilometers from the active vent

Currently, there are four mapped tangible-immovable cultural properties registered to the Philippine Registry of Cultural Property inside the 6-km and 10-km radius from the crater of Mt. Kanlaon. All of which fall under the jurisdiction of the City of Bago, Negros Occidental.
