Mt. Kanlaon is a stratovolcano that is situated in the provinces of Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental, the highest peak in Central Visayas region and has a 4-km radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ). According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology latest Volcano Bulletin dated 22 March 2023, Mt. Based on the Kanlaon Volcano Alert Scheme, during Alert Level 3 (High Level of Volcanic Unrest), danger zones may increase to a radius of six (6) kilometers from the summit crater or active vent. On the other hand, during Alert Level 4 (Hazardous Eruption Imminent), danger zones may be expanded to a radius of ten (10) kilometers or more from the summit crater or active vent.
