MT. BULUSAN PDZ AND EDZ: REGISTERED PROPERTIES SITUATED IN THE AREA
Mt. Bulusan, one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines, is located in the province of Sorsogon in Bicol region. It is the fourth most active volcano in the country and has four craters. Mt. Bulusan has a 4-km radius Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) wherein human settlements are not allowed and has a 6-km Extended Danger Zone (EDZ). On 18 January 2023, Mt. Bulusan was placed from Alert Level 1 (Low-level of Unrest) to Alert Level 0 (Normal) by PHIVOLCS.
During Alert Level 2 (Moderate Level of Volcanic Unrest), other areas within five (5) kilometers of the active vent may be included in the danger zone. On the other hand, during Alert Level 3 (High Level of Volcanic Unrest), danger zones may be expanded up to eight (8) kilometers from the active crater. Meanwhile, during Alert Level 4 (Hazardous Eruption Imminent), the danger zone may be extended up to nine (9) kilometers or more from the active crater.
Currently, there are seven mapped tangible-immovable cultural properties registered to the Philippine Registry of Cultural Property (PRECUP) inside the 8-km radius from the crater of Mt. Bulusan. All of which fall under the jurisdiction of the Municipality of Irosin, Sorsogon.
